International Exchange Week in Coimbra

From 11th till 15th of March the International Exchange Week BIP in “Embedded Systems” took place in the Coimbra Institute of Engineering (ISEC) from Polytechnic Institute of Coimbra (IPC) in Coimbra, Portugal. During the week the various topics were discussed related to the Embedded System development, design of software and hardware, networking and applications and many more. There were also number of invited speakers from the industry and other universities. One of the speaker was from Fachhochschule Dortmund – Prof. Dino Schönberg. He gave the presentation on the topic “Edge Computing – Challenges and Solutions”.

The students from Fachhochschule Dortmund took part in it and shared their experience:

“I recently attended the Blended Intensive Program (BIP) in Embedded Systems organized by the Coimbra Institute of Engineering (ISEC) in collaboration with the Polytechnic Institute of Coimbra (IPC) and partners. I would like to share my feedback and experience from the program.

The program provided in-depth knowledge and insights into the field of embedded systems. I gained a clear understanding of the importance and role of embedded systems in various industries. The sessions covered a wide range of topics, from hardware and software design to networking and applications. The complexity of the topics varied, starting from introductory concepts and progressing to more specialized areas such as robotics, energy control, artificial intelligence, internet of things (IoT), and edge computing. This allowed me to explore different aspects of embedded systems and understand their practical applications.

One highlight of the program was the inclusion of an industry expert as an invited speaker. Their insights and real-world experiences provided valuable perspectives on the current trends and challenges in the field of embedded systems. Additionally, the planned visit to an industrial partner gave us the opportunity to witness the practical implementation of embedded systems in a professional setting.

The teaching methodology, which combined online sessions with in-person lectures and workshops, was highly effective. The online sessions provided a convenient way to access the course material and interact with the instructors and fellow participants. The in-person lectures and workshops, conducted in a practical laboratory setting, allowed us to apply the knowledge gained and enhance our understanding through hands-on experience. The practical projects assigned during the program were particularly valuable, as they challenged us to apply the concepts learned and develop our skills in a practical manner.

Apart from the academic aspects, the program also included several social activities. The BIP dinner and guided tour provided opportunities for networking and socializing with fellow participants and instructors. These activities created a supportive and collaborative environment, fostering meaningful interactions and connections.

Overall, I am extremely satisfied with my experience in the Blended Intensive Program in Embedded Systems. The program provided comprehensive knowledge, practical exposure, and networking opportunities. I would like to express my gratitude to the organizers, instructors, and industry experts for their efforts in delivering a high-quality program. I believe that the knowledge and skills acquired during this program will significantly contribute to my professional growth in the field of embedded systems.”
